MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee was interviewed yesterday (Friday, June 12) at the Download festival, which is being held June 12-14 at Donington Park, United Kingdom. Watch the chat below.

MÖTLEY CRÜE will perform its classic 1989 album, “Dr. Feelgood”, in its entirety on Crüe Fest 2, the sophomore outing of the band’s summer festival tour, which kicks off on July 19 in Camden, New Jersey and concludes on September 5 in Darien Lake, New York.

The two-disc DVD set containing footage from last year’s inaugural edition of Crüe Fest sold 7,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Music Videos chart. The set contains the full CRÜE concert from on August 28, 2008 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada’s Molson Amphitheatre along with select tracks from the other bands that took part in the festival — BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH, TRAPT and SIXX: A.M..

MÖTLEY CRÜE’s ‘Crüe Fest 2′ Adds Second Stage

MÖTLEY CRÜE’s summer festival tour, Crüe Fest 2, has announced a partnership with Monster Energy to add an additional stage at this year’s festival.

The new Monster Energy Stage doubles the entertainment value at Crüe Fest 2 with five extra bands showcasing the next generation of rock, including one local band in each tour market. The performances on the Monster Energy Stage will be staggered between main stage acts creating a non-stop music event and adding to the overall festival atmosphere. With no change in ticket prices, rock fans will be given the opportunity to see ten great rock bands for the price of one.

A local band will be chosen by the presenting radio station in each market contributing to the legacy of rock bands on the tour. The chosen band will open the Monster Energy Stage for a dedicated and Crüe Fest 2-sized crowd.

TOMMY LEE Opens Recording Studio – May 11, 2009

MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee has opened a recording studio called The Atrium. Located on the entire lower floor of Tommy’s Calabasas, California residence, the studio was created specifically to provide an environment that inspires creativity and offer a vibey alternative to traditional, commercial recording studios.

The Atrium Studio is equipped to host all stages of a full-blown music production — writing through mixing. Although the facility is mainly for private use, Tommy often opens the doors to fellow friends and musicians to use for their own projects.

Tommy Lee Performs “Looks That Kill” With Static-X

93X reports: Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee joined Static-X on stage on May 4, 2009 at the House of Blues in Hollywood, California to perform a cover of the Crue classic “Looks That Kill”.

Static-X’s version of “Looks That Kill” is included on the Best Buy-exclusive version of the band’s latest album, Cult of Static.

As previously reported, Static-X has tapped drummer Will Hunt (Evanescence, Dark New Day, ex-Scrape, Tommy Lee) to fill in for Nick Oshiro on the group’s current tour. Hunt also appears in Static-X’s new video for the song “Stingwray”.

Oshiro is reportedly “taking a break” from Static-X, but has not officially left the band.

“Stingwray” was inspired by frontman Wayne Static’s wife, former adult film star Tera Wray, and the Corvette Stingray she drives.

MÖTLEY CRÜE Guitarist Talks About ‘Bones’ Guest Appearance – May 6, 2009

The members of MÖTLEY CRÜE will appear in the season finale of “Bones” on May 14. In the episode, the band is playing at a nightclub where a murder victim is found. Guitarist Mick Mars gave The Pulse of Radio a little background on the show and the band’s guest spot. “We’re doing a weekly series called ‘Bones’, actually this lady’s name is Bones and she goes around and does like forensic things on old bones that they find and stuff and she finds out how the person died or if the person was murdered or if they died of natural causes and that kind of a thing so it was kind of cool,” he said.

Mars said this isn’t the first time MÖTLEY CRÜE has been asked to appear on a TV drama. “A long time ago we were asked to do ‘CHiPs’ and we kind of passed on it because we thought it was a little bit not us, but this is I think more us, ’cause, you know, it’s like kind of dark and, you know, with the skeletons and forensic stuff and autopsy kind of weird thing and everything else, and crime scene investigators and stuff that’s more, more like a MÖTLEY CRÜE thing.”

“Bones” airs on Fox and stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz.

Tommy Lee Buries Hatchet with Former Fiancee

Tommy Lee was arrested fifteen years ago after allegedly assaulting his then-fiancée. The Motley Crue drummer was jailed for three hours before being released after repeatedly denying the allegations.

Now, former beauty queen Bobbie Brown, who was supposed to marry the drummer at the time, has forgiven him.

Brown revealed that Lee had apologized recently. While the pair split up after the incident, she said that she was psychologically damaged for years.

The two have since made amends. Fans can read her account in ‘Serial Rock Dater: Sex, Drugs and Cherry’, her new memoir.

MATT SORUM Doesn’t Think AXL ROSE Should Tour Under GUNS N’ ROSES Name

Former GUNS N’ ROSES drummer Matt Sorum, who joined the group in 1990, told The Pulse of Radio last week that he doesn’t think it’s cool for Axl Rose to take his current band on the road under the GUNS N’ ROSES name. “I’m not saying I’m an original member, okay, but I understand the core of the band, which is Slash and Duff and probably Izzy,” he said. “It’s a shame, and you know what, this goes back to a Paul McCartney thing. Does he call himself THE BEATLES? Not saying we were as big as THE BEATLES, but — does Sting call himself THE POLICE? No. Does Jimmy Page and Robert Plant go out there calling themselves LED ZEPPELIN? Nope.”

“Chinese Democracy”, the sixth and most recent album from GUNS N’ ROSES, was released in its entirety to the Rock Band Music Store catalog of downloadable content on April 14.

The tracks are available for purchase as an album or individual tracks for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system. The tracks are available for purchase as individual tracks only for Wii.

“Chinese Democracy” — which was released on November 23, 2008 as a Best Buy exclusive after a wait of more than 15 years — sold 1,300 copies in the United States in the seven days ending April 26.

Aside from Billboard and Spinner interviews and answering a number of fan questions at a GUNS N’ ROSES message board, singer Axl Rose has done no promotion of any kind for “Chinese Democracy”.

“Chinese Democracy” was officially certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on February 3, 2009 for shipments in the United States in excess of one million copies. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the CD has sold 574,000 copies in the U.S. so far.

GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist Richard Fortus hinted in an interview with a St. Louis radio station earlier this week that a tour from the Axl Rose-led band is imminent. Fortus said on the program, “I’ve been in rehearsals with GUNS for the last little bit here — focusing more on that world right now . . . We, hopefully, will be announcing dates soon, I hope.” Fortus added, “I don’t know of any dates in the U.S. yet; I haven’t heard any talk. I’m sure that we will . . . Right now that’s not where the focus is; I know that we’re gonna be probably announcing other dates first.”

Rumors have been building about a GUNS N’ ROSES tour for several months now, including one report that a co-headlining stadium trek with VAN HALEN was in the works for this summer.

The band did recently announce that guitarist and songwriter D.J. Ashba will join the lineup for its upcoming tour. Ashba has most recently been seen as part of SIXX: A.M., the side project started by MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx.

Tommy Lee gears up for Download Festival and MORE…

“We had such a great one last time we played Download,” he says. “It was f***ing wicked. “Of course we’re going to do the craziness. We are bringing over what we have been dragging around the States the past months. “It’s going to be fun – we’re going to have more fun than we are allowed to have. “We’ll be drinking some absinthe with Marilyn Manson. “There are a bunch of killer bands on the bill – Korn and Slipknot are cool guys. Chris Cornell’s playing, which should be hot.”

Despite decades of touring, Tommy has yet to play a show on home turf – till this summer. He reveals: “We’ve never played Greece so I’m pretty excited about taking my kids out too. I’m sure that we’re going to get in trouble. “I’m going to stay for probably a week and catch up with family and chill out.”

And despite being a veteran, Tommy still gets the wobbles before a gig. He admits: “It’s kind of my rule to still get nervous. My stomach starts getting all crazy and I pace around. I start playing drums on everything before the show. “The second that I don’t get that feeling I’ll probably quit because I will have lost the passion.”

The next priority after Mötley Crüe rip up Download is a record from Tommy’s other band, Methods Of Mayhem. Due around September, the album will take a swerve away from their nu-metal roots to something more club friendly. “I got a couple of new favourites that I’ve been listening to – Does It Offend You, Yeah and MGMT,” he says. “Those two bands are doing some new s*** which I think is really cool. It’s what I’m doing with the Methods project. “It’s got elements of rock but yet you can dance to it.” So will Tommy be giving Justin Timberlake, 28, a run for his money and get choreography lessons? With a guffaw he insists: “Hell no. I just make the music and let everyone else dance.”

Charm City Devils, the band that were hand selected as Nikki Sixx’s first signing to his label, Eleven Seven Music (named the Rock Label of the Year by FMQB), have been dubbed the #1 Rock Band in Maryland for 2008 by SenBaltimore.com. The bands debut single “Let’s Rock-N-Roll,” has been burning up Baltimore’s local radio and is quickly garnering a national buzz. The album of the same name is expected to be releasing in May of 2009.
